General Information of Costa Rica

Costa Rica is well known for its friendly people and peaceful culture.   This small country famously abolished its army in 1949 and holds the record for being the longest standing democracy in Latin America. 

Costa Rica’s land territory measures 51.100 square kilometres, representing only 0.03% of the earth’s surface.  However, it is home to 6% of the existing biodiversity of the world.  Costa Ricans proudly protect approximately one fourth of their national territory as conservation areas; including national and private biological reserves, wildlife refuges, and national parks.
